Using A Hotel For A Children's Pool Party

by Lilja Maijala

If you have a child with a winter birthday, you are limited in the type of birthday party you can throw for them, as the weather will make a huge impact on the activities the guests will be able to partake in. Consider finding a hotel with an indoor swimming pool to use for your party activities. The guests will enjoy a summertime activity even though weather is not warm outdoors, and you will enjoy a party without needing guests to come to your home. Here are some steps to use to make your child's winter swimming party a hit for all who attend.

Select The Right Hotel

Look for a hotel that specifically advertises pool parties. Most hotels will offer parties that are to be held between check-out and check-in times, as they are less likely to have hotel guests coming in to use the swimming pool. When looking for a hotel to host the party, ask if they have a conference room available to use for an hour in the middle of the party. Most hotels will be happy to rent out this space in addition to the swimming pool. You may be able to get a discounted rate on the hotel conference rooms rental if you ask for a package deal for the party space.

Make The Pool Festive

Decorate around the pool area with beach decor such as paper cutouts of palm trees, flamingos, or dolphins. Bring along a helium machine and attach blue and green balloons to any pool chairs or tables with ribbon. When each guest arrives, have them place their gifts in the conference room for safekeeping.

Hand out water flotation devices, goggles, containers of bubbles, and diving sticks to the guests to use while in the pool. Bring along a radio or compact disc player and crank out some of the most popular tunes for the children to enjoy as they swim together. Hold a few swimming games or races for prizes.

Take A Break

Partway through the party, round-up the children to head to the conference room. Give them each a towel to dry off and make sure they put on shoes when walking to the meeting room. Inside, have each place setting prepared in advance so you will not be wasting time handing out plates and utensils when the children are antsy to go back to the pool.

Have pizza delivered to the hotel from a local establishment, or have the hotel restaurant make a child-appropriate meal such as chicken fingers and fries. After everyone has a bite to eat, have your child open gifts before you enjoy the cake. Head on back to the pool to enjoy the rest of the time celebrating!
